Edukate is a financial wellness platform that helps employees understand and take advantage of their financial benefits. They were looking to establish a cohesive brand design system that they could use to execute across a web platform and various documentation and marketing material.

Some early ideas played with school motifs, direct symbolism and visual shorthand.

After a looking at a bunch of ideas, we stumbled on a symbol that both captured a bright, inspiring feeling that we were looking for…

…and also symbolize our name and many other aspects of the service in it’s subtext.

A logotype was created to match the visual charcteristics of the symbol, and a full color palette was built based on the primary orange shade that symbolizes a spark of energy.

A process was established where images could be desaturated and overlaid overtop of a brand color swatch to create a unique effect that could be applied to any image.

The result was an effect that could be applied to any photograph to make it feel unified with others. Templates were shared with a series of selects that would translate well to this treatment.

Icons were designed in the same thick marker style that the symbol itself was, and certain accent marks were created to be overlaid on top of the color-processed images.

Additionally, a series of continious line drawings were created as a visual device in story-telling on marketing materials.

Here’s an example of them in use on this brochure that walks through the platform, starting from the cover and ending on the back.

Bold color and illustration are two major factors in the brand style, as evident in the document template and shirt design below.

The website brought all of the visual brand aspects together, and included a handful of illustrations that demonstrated how the platform can help all different types of customers.

Real-life settings with product elements overlaid helped show how the product helps our day-to-day.
